Frequently Asked Questions

Which lens color is better for fishing?

Because of the lens clarity, ALL of our polarized sunglasses lens colors will work well for fishing in freshwater and saltwater, so if there’s a lens color or model you strongly prefer, you should buy that pair with the confidence that you can use it on your fishing trip. The more important factor is lens clarity. However, there are certain light conditions where amber lenses can marginally heighten contrast that some anglers find useful. All polarized lenses, however, heighten contrast.

What are Nylon lenses?

We selected Nylon lenses, for our premium Montanan and LVF sunglasses because, quite simply, they are in our opinion, the best material for flyfishing sunglasses.

Optical Clarity: Advances in nylon lens technology have improved their optical clarity, bringing them close to the performance of glass lenses in terms of visual acuity and distortion-free vision. (from our USA partner)

Lightweight: Nylon lenses are typically lighter than glass and other plastics, which can enhance comfort, especially for all-day wear. (from our USA partner)

What is oleophobic coating used on the Montana and LVF lenses?

Makes cleaning the lenses easier and reduces smudging. Oleophobic coating is a specialized surface treatment applied to the nylon lenses of Winston Montana and LVF sunglasses designed to repel oils, fingerprints, and smudges. This advanced technology is commonly used on touchscreens, lenses, and other high-contact surfaces to maintain clarity and cleanliness. (from our USA partner). Use microfiber cloth for best results and to prevent micro scratches over time.

What is the anti-reflective coating on the Montana and LVF lenses?

Calms reflected light from behind to allow better visibility looking forward.Coating is a special treatment applied to the nylon lenses of Winston Montana and LVF sunglasses. Its purpose is to minimize reflections from both the front and back surfaces of your lenses. The result? Sharper vision, reduced eye strain, and improved clarity and contrast.(from our USA partner)

Which lens color looks better?

Personal choice. We picked these frame and lens colors because they look great.

Where are Winston Sunglasses designed?

Our sunglasses are designed together with our USA partners in MT and California.

Where are Winston Sunglasses made?

They are made in China as are many other top fashion brand sunglasses.

Who wears Winston Sunglasses?

People who love the optics of our lenses and beauty of our frames who are dedicated anglers, as well as those who don’t fish but want excellent sunglasses and just want to look great. This, of course, includes anyone, especially anglers, wanting to feel comfortable with how they look who don’t particularly like the appearance of wrap-around sunglasses.

Can I achieve more side-coverage with Winston sunglasses?

For anyone who loves our sunglasses and yet also wants a little extra side light protection when fishing, try using a gaiter and pull it up over the sides of your head which will cover the sides of the sunglasses and block out most of any side light. You can also get inexpensive slide-on SIDE SHIELDS. They slide onto the arms of your sunglasses and block out extra light. We used these in New Zealand recently and they worked well. However, we found that the sunglasses look much better without the side shields (especially for photos), so eventually took them off and were easily able to spot fish underwater all day without them, especially with our anti-reflective coating.

A great assist in catching Montana's wild trout!

Winston's new sunglasses line took me to the Gallatin River on a late fall evening in October in Montana's famed river. Wearing the "Classic with clear frames and green polarized lenses," I Immediately found them a perfect fit for my medium sized face. No movement from the frames, as I sloshed through the water and hopping winding banks. The green lens reflected well with the fall colors with plenty of sunshine. Not too dark and not to light. Even with light fading on the water they remained on my face for clarity just in case I missed a potential deep hole. Structurally they were light on the face which helps for long periods of wear. The "Classic is both stylish to kick back casually, and to add to your arsenal of fly-fishing attire for a clear day on the river." I recommend!
